NYFW 2012: Marchesa RTW

OMG I just have to gosh about this! Marchesa Ready to Wear did it for me!  Unless you've you been living under a rock (with no laptop, ipad, phone and wifi) these past couple of days and you hate fashion then you're excused if you don't know the New York Fashion Week just ended.  Yours sincerely wasn't there in person but with nearly every fashion blog giving up-to-date tidbits I kinda felt like I was there in person. I spent countless hours slouched over my laptop looking at pictures from the shows, reading posts from bloggers who were live in NYC for the shows.  I've seen dozens of street style fashion (most of them colourful and creative but some have just being too absurd to be honest).

I'll admit it I was green with envy when I found out my friend Nneka (of neks2u.com) was in New York for NYFW! Lucky girl!  I've always had vivid dreams of me bagging 'frow' (front row) seats next to Kimye or Solange and making oh la la sounds as the models sashay down the runway just a couple of feet away from me (so close I can practically touch them).  Oh well.......

Anyway, the preview of Marchesa's spring collection on Wednesday was staged in Grand Central's Vanderbilt Hall on Wednesaday.  As expected Kim and Kanye got frow and Tyra Banks was also in attendance.

Going through the catwalk pictures, I  was delighted to see it was Indian inspired.  there were saris, gold, pearls, intricate beadings, tulle, embroidery, fringes, brocades, jewels, cropped pants. I swooned when I saw the jewel encrusted Christian Louboutin kitten heels! ....wow!

Am happy to share my personal faves from the show below:

Weekday at the beach

So me, Jessica (my sis), Angie, Elvira and her cute son decided to go to the beach today.  The day started out cloudy and actually rained midday but we were so determined to go to the beach that we took off as soon as it stopped drizzling.

We decided to go to Artica beach (not sure about the spelling) and snuck in snacks and some drinks (which turned out to be a good thing because they didn't have any there).

Life Imitating Art

So I decided to give life to the last ensemble I created on polyvore (click HERE to view). Too bad I don't have the red 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli bag that I'm currently crushing on. Having the Rebecca Minkoff Solange nude wedges would have helped a great deal too.  Well I improvised with what I had and pulled the look together.

Next pleated maxi

Knotted Denim shirt

I wore an embellished pink silk shell top and tied my trusty denim shirt in a knot. To keep my skirt from falling off I accessorized with a studded leather double wrap waist belt.
Lipsy studded double wrap belt

I guess everyone knows by now that I'm a quite partial to maxis.  Left to me, I'd wear them everyday.  I love this lovely pleated one from Next and what's so cool about it is the slit it has in front and the way it flutters around when there a slight wind.

I decided to treat myself to a post-birthday present and made up my mind to get the baddest weave I could get my mitts on and a few pings later, my girl Angela told me she was going to hook me with some neck-turning stuff and boy did she!

Now before I get lynched by the pro-natural hair team I just want to say this, I love my natural hair and I carry it for as long as I can, matter of fact I rock my own hair more than I do weaves so no one should take shots at me for not being proud of what God gave me!

I actually gasped when I saw this wonder.  There was no way I could leave without it on my head.

Met the lovely and beautiful Danielle at the salon, she had this lovely heavily beaded ankara blouse with just beads at the back (I'll ask her for a pic showing the back of the blouse and I'll post it).  She offered to take most of the pictures you see on this post.  I liked how she paired her top with a dark wash pair of skinnies and louboutins...very chic.

Gorgeous ankara beaded backless blouse

I also ran into gorgeous Ono Bello and we chatted about blogging, weird African food and I noticed she was reading Fifty Shades of Grey (way to go girl!).

For information on where to get this lovely hair just shoot me an email (ijawgal@yahoo.com) and I'll hook you up cos that's what girls do for each other!
