Utility Shirt and Maxi Skirt

I love utility shirts. I like the versatility they give, you can go serious and wear them tucked into a pencil skirt or sashay around town with them tucked into a pleated skirt with the sleeves rolled up. For a casual look, wear them untucked with your fave skinnies or leggings and a pair of flats (don't forget to roll up the sleeves to complete the casual look).

Woke up Friday morning and as usual I couldn't make up my mind what to wear.  I'd brought out this shirt days before to wear with a peach coloured ankle grazing trousers but wasn't sure the colours would go together,  I decided to make the shirt the focal point of my entire outfit and build everything else around it.

I paired it with my trusty black pleated maxi skirt, black belt and wrapped my hair in a mini turban (bad hair weave day).

Tying the turban wasn't an easy feat I tell you, it kept coming undone and my hair just refused to stay under the scarf.  After a 15 minute battle, I won and with a flourish secured the front knot with a booby pin.

Love my colourful butterfly earrings, I'm drawn to butterflies for reasons I'm yet to fathom.

Love the look?  Think I should have added something or gone without another?  Well go ahead and drop a comment then!

Bonded Lace Skirt

I've been getting stick from a lot of readers for posting only indoor pictures lately, I know I should diversify but as every blogger knows, getting people to take pictures of you is pretty tough, some lucky bloggers have turned their boyfriends/husbands into photographers and others hire professional photogs but as yours sincerely doesn't have any of the listed available, I work with what I have.....Blessing the office assistant in my office.  Aside from shaky hands, Blessing is quite good and lately she has taken to directing the shots, creating scenarios and touching up my makeup!

I decided to dig up my bonded lace skirt after seeing the picture below of my older sister on her blackberry display picture.  Marcella owns Marcellas Boutique in Port Harcourt, its at 73 Evo Road GRA 2, Port Harcourt.

Marcella paired hers with a blush coloured top with a sequined collar.  Taking inspiration from big sis, I hunted mine down and rocked it with a blue back slit top and red pointy heels

I really like the frill at the bottom of the skirt though I was a bit worried I'd look funny with frills on my top and on the bottom as well but I think it turned out well.

Bonded Lace Peplum

I just can't seem to get enough of the peplum trend.  It's soooo flattering and very forgiving as well, it helps disguise muffin tops and that lower tummy pouch (sit ups and planking has refused to shift mine) amongst other things.

Only Nigerians would understand this picture

Like I said two post ago, I'm drawn to girlie things and trust me you can't get more girlier with lace.  I snapped this bonded lace peplum lace the minute I saw it on the rack at Oasis.  I thought it was pricey but I just knew I had to have it or hell would freeze over.

I paired it with a navy blue pencil skirt and a closed toe suede kitten heel sandals with spiky studs at the toe.  I've always like the edginess of spikes and studs on shoes but I've been too scared to try the trend myself till I saw this one and decided to give it a go (maybe it's the fact that it doesn't look like a weapon)

I cinched my waist in with a red belt for a pop of colour and i was ready for work.

Pink Friday

Friday is everyone's best day of the week no contest there, like most offices, the dress code is much more relaxed on Friday in my office so anything goes (well not exactly everything.....like bikinis for example :-D).

Swing away!

I love girlie stuff, girlie stuff like frills, lace, pink, bows, flowers and cotton candy. To a great extent, this reflects on my dressing as I would rather wear a dress or a skirt over pants and shorts.  There are times when I get my dude on and wear trousers, shirts, blazers and oxford lace-ups but I'm primarily a girlie girl.

I dug up this grey swing dress that hadn't seen any action since 2010, it was what I wore on for graduation (since it was in the dead of winter I wore a black turtleneck jumper underneath it, tights and knee-high boots).  It was a bit breezy that particular day and the wind kept raising the full skirts of the dress up.  I threw the dress somewhere dark that day and vowed never to wear it again and I didn't until yesterday,  I woke up a tad bit late yesterday morning and as usual didn't have anything to wear (maybe I should scratch that and say I couldn't make up my mind what to wear).

After trying on a couple of dresses and deciding I looked horrid in them I just grabbed this and cinched it in with a belt and hey presto my OOTD was born. Accessorising wasn't so easy 'cause I wanted something to give the grey dress a little colour, In a frantic rush to get out of the house I finally picked this bib necklace and Bobs your uncle!

For more pop of colour, I wore this cute pointy red flats with a bow in front (I've still got the shoes in stock so if you're interested in getting a pair just shoot me an email on ijawgal@yahoo.com)

I want to thank you all for the continued support.  Thanks for the emails, BB messages, comments on this blog and on my personal FB page. For people that have asked about my makeup routine, I'm currently working on that particular post so watch this space!

Rule Breaker: Pink and Red!

Remember when it was a taboo to pair colours like red and pink or green and blue together? Remember that chick you accused of colour rioting when she boldly showed up at work wearing a blue skirt and a green top?  Well guess the joke is on you now Miss!!!

Thanks to the color blocking trend that we have seen hit the red carpet in 2011, it is now appropriate for people to wear pink and red together.

Emma Stone, Zoe Saldana and SPJ rocking red and pink!

How To Rock Red and Pink

Tone It Down: Use black, metallics or neutrals to help chill a seemingly contradicting color combo. Don't go overboard by matching your outfit to red and pink accessories.

Play: Give this style a chance by experimenting with what you have in your closet and shopping for complementary hues in stores. Don't wait until Monday morning before work to try it out.

Harmonize: Try wearing solid pieces in pinks and reds of the same brightness or intensity to create balance. Don't mix prints of red and pink together–that's just asking for trouble.

I wore a red skirt and a pink blouse.  I decided to wear a tri-coloured pair of shoes and picked a brown bag.

Red loves leopards

Everyone loves red. Nothing beats a red dress on a blue day, I woke up Monday morning feeling all blue and low and decided to wear red, it was an instant booster and left me feeling bright and cheery.

Everyone knows red loves leopard print right? There's a certain va-va-voomness that leopard print gives.  Celebs like Dita von Teese and Serena Williams have stepped out looking hot pairing them together.  I mean if it's good enough for Dita then I reckon it's just about right for me too!

I decided to wear a leopard print peep toe shoes with red platforms and heel.  I accessorised with gold jewellery and carried my bag du jour.....the Zara black shoppers bag (not shown).
